Patrice Charbonneau: L’espace est le thème dominant de la peinture de Patrice Charbonneau. Au départ de chaque oeuvre, une architecture de lignes, de plans, esquissent la fiction d’un lieu, d’une place, d’un paysage, d’un intérieur. C’est cet espace proprement humain auquel s’intéresse Patrice Charbonneau : tantôt, en ce qu’il est marqué par un événement marquant, chargé d’émotion; tantôt, dans sa banalité, lieu de l’ordinaire, du quotidien, espace des gestes habituels, familiers, circuits des aménagements matériels, tracés des déplacements. Toujours, il est question d’un espace habité; toujours, une narration sous-tend le tissu des marques laissées sur la surface par l’artiste.
Luc Bergeron: À la suite d'une exploration sur le paysage et les expositions Berceaudebrume, Cyclesdessaisons et Boréalie l'atelier s'est révélé comme sujet pivot de ma recherche. Non pas l'œuvre d'art après l'atelier mais l'atelier comme oeuvre d'art. À la fois laboratoire et archives visuelles ce travail de recherche a permis une investigation de mon espace intime par le biais de la chambre, une investigation sociale par celui de la salle à dîner et de travail, par celui de l'atelier et ainsi mettre de l'avant les multiples intérêts de mon écriture artistique. Il en résulte une tonalité esthétique fluide, modulable et transposable selon l'espace d'exposition et dont Table des matières, Espaces et Domicile en sont les principaux jalons de concrétisation à ce jour. Comme a bien dit Eduardo Ralikas dans un texte sur ma recherche: Habiter l'installation et installer l'habitation résument bien ce que peindre signifie pour Luc Bergeron.
Patrice Charbonneau: Space is the dominant theme in Patrice Charbonneau's paintings. At the start of each work, an architecture of lines and planes sketches the fiction of a place, a square, a landscape, an interior. It is this very human space that Patrice Charbonneau is interested in: sometimes, as marked by a significant event, charged with emotion; sometimes, in its banality, a place of the ordinary, the everyday, the space of habitual, familiar gestures, circuits of material arrangements, traces of movement. Always, it's a question of inhabited space; always, a narrative underlies the fabric of marks left on the surface by the artist.
Luc Bergeron: Following an exploration of landscape and the Berceaudebrume, Cyclesdessaisons and Boréalie exhibitions, the studio emerged as the pivotal subject of my research. Not the artwork after the studio, but the studio as artwork. At once a laboratory and a visual archive, this research work enabled me to investigate my intimate space through the bedroom, the social space through the dining room and the working space through the studio, thus bringing to the fore the multiple interests of my artistic writing. The result is an aesthetic tone that is fluid, adaptable and transposable according to the exhibition space, with Table des matières, Espaces and Domicile being the main milestones to date. As Eduardo Ralikas aptly put it in a text on my research: Habiter l'installation et installer l'habitation sum up what painting means for Luc Bergeron.
