Kevin was born in February of 1962 on the Island of Montreal in Quebec. Expressing himself artistically was important from an early age. School had its virtues, but he wasn't strong in art and learned early on not to put all his eggs in one basket. Kevin understood that artistic expression takes many forms and just thinking about being an artist can make you one in the long run.
One of Kevin’s first real jobs was painting backgrounds for a small animation studio. Late in 1993, he began his first serious work, a long series of paper collages on illustration board that lasted until 2008. Sculpture has kept Kevin busy from 1999 until the present. As an autodidactic artist in his mid-late career, he still gets inspiration from many art sources, especially the Surrealists. Tapping into the unexpected using improvisation and experimentation gives him great satisfaction.
Stone sculpture, in particular marble, has always fascinated Kevin. Working in smaller sizes, he finds it easy to carve with the grinder, moving the stone quickly, achieving results that often astound him.
All collages are made with paper from various magazines glued flat on acid-free board. They are all framed (glass & metal) except for "Sunday".
Kevin est né en février 1962 sur l'île de Montréal, au Québec. Dès son plus jeune âge, il a tenu à s'exprimer artistiquement. L'école avait ses vertus, mais il n'était pas doué pour l'art et a appris très tôt à ne pas mettre tous ses œufs dans le même panier. Kevin a compris que l'expression artistique prend de nombreuses formes et que le simple fait de penser à être un artiste peut en faire un à long terme.
L'un des premiers emplois réels de Kevin a consisté à peindre des arrière-plans pour un petit studio d'animation. Fin 1993, il a commencé son premier travail sérieux, une longue série de collages de papier sur carton d'illustration qui a duré jusqu'en 2008. La sculpture a occupé Kevin de 1999 à aujourd'hui. Artiste autodidacte en fin de carrière, il s'inspire toujours de nombreuses sources d'art, en particulier des surréalistes. L'improvisation et l'expérimentation lui procurent une grande satisfaction.
La sculpture sur pierre, en particulier sur marbre, a toujours fasciné Kevin. Travaillant dans des formats plus petits, il trouve qu'il est facile de sculpter avec la meuleuse, en déplaçant la pierre rapidement, obtenant ainsi des résultats qui le surprennent souvent.
Tous les collages sont réalisés avec du papier provenant de divers magazines, collé à plat sur du carton sans acide. Ils sont tous encadrés (verre et métal) à l'exception de "Sunday".
