InterconneXion: Déclaration d'exposition
InterconneXion est une collaboration impliquant sept graveurs et un vidéaste. Le projet a commencé par le concept selon lequel l'art cherche toujours une interconnexion, en commençant par une union entre le concept et l'artiste, en faisant référence au spirituel et au corporel, aux points communs et aux différences, en cherchant toujours une relation entre l'art, l'artiste, l'environnement, la communauté et finalement le spectateur. Les artistes se sont mis au défi de créer une série de grands blocs de gravure sur bois. Travaillant au-delà des limites de l'atelier, l'impression a été réalisée à l'aide d'un rouleau compresseur de 5 tonnes comme presse à imprimer. Le processus d'encrage et d'impression, réalisé en plein air, a suscité la participation du public. Dans une région où les infrastructures et le développement socio-économique sont faibles, les artistes ont fait participer leur communauté à une expérience d'apprentissage unique et amusante qui leur a permis d'interagir avec leur public.
Les œuvres d'art finies ont été exposées à cinq reprises dans toute la région de l'Outaouais et de la vallée de l'Outaouais ainsi qu'à Montréal. Les blocs d'impression et une vidéo montrant le projet de sa conception à sa réalisation accompagnent l'exposition.

InterconneXion : Exhibition Statement
InterconneXion is a collaboration involving seven printmakers and one videographer. The project began with the concept that art always seeks an interconnection; starting with a union between the concept and the artist; referencing the spiritual and the corporeal; the commonality and the difference; always seeking a relationship between art, artist, environment, community and ultimately the viewer. The artists challenged themselves to create a series of large woodcut printing blocks. Working beyond the limits of the studio, the printing was done using a five ton steamroller as a printing press. The inking and printing process, done in an outdoor setting, invited the public to participate. In an area of low infrastructure and socio-economic development, the artists engaged their community in a unique and fun learning experience that allowed them an opportunity to interact with their audience.
The finished artworks have exhibited at five galleries in the Outaouais/Ottawa Valley region and in Montréal. Accompanying the exhibit are the actual printing blocks and a video showing the project from conception to completion.

“All things are connected” and I drew inspiration from the connection human beings have with each other and with their environment. This interconnection materializes in the fluid –blood, water or sap- connecting humans to the land they are part of.
In my plates, bodies are intertwined. Their webs of veins connect through their feet, their roots, to the land, rivers and lakes around Shawville, a town between two provinces.
" Toutes choses sont connectées " et je me suis inspirée de la connexion que les êtres humains ont entre eux et avec leur environnement. Cette interconnexion se matérialise dans le fluide - sang, eau ou sève - qui relie les humains à la terre dont ils font partie.
Dans mes planches, les corps sont entrelacés. Leurs réseaux de veines sont reliés par leurs pieds, leurs racines, à la terre, aux rivières et aux lacs qui entourent Shawville, une ville entre deux provinces.

Attirée par les formes, les lignes et les couleurs, je reproduis mes impressions sous forme abstraite. Pour le projet InterconneXion, c’est vers le plan spirituel que je me suis tournée, vers une forme d’expression génétique et cosmique, vers un lien imagé sur ce qui constitue les bases de l’être et de son existence.
J'aime la flexibilité et la variété de techniques que la gravure m'offre. Travailler sur grand format est un défi de taille mais l’impression à l’aide du rouleau compresseur est l’inconnu.
Attracted by shapes, lines and colours, I reproduce my impressions in abstract form. For the InterconneXion project, I was inspired by a spiritual aspect, a form of genetic and cosmic expression, an imaginary link to what constitutes the basis of being and existence.
I like the flexibility and variety of techniques that printmaking offers me. Working on large format is a great challenge, and printing with a steamroller is the unknown.

The InterconneXion project has offered me a unique opportunity to reflect on our place in the world. Both of my woodblock prints explore our place in nature and nature’s place in us, since in the end, we are all interconnected.
In “Family Tree,” ocean current lines become the tree trunk and the continents become the canopy of a single family tree.
In “Golden Ratio” nature uses the golden ratio often in her arrangement of leaves, seeds, sea shells and even in the proportions of animals and the human body, representing the oneness of us all and our environment.
Le projet InterconneXion m'a offert une occasion unique de réfléchir à notre place dans le monde. Mes deux gravures sur bois explorent notre place dans la nature et la place de la nature en nous, puisque, en fin de compte, nous sommes tous interconnectés.
Dans « Family Tree » les lignes de courant de l'océan deviennent le tronc de l'arbre et les continents la canopée d'un arbre familial unique.
Dans « Golden Ratio ». La nature utilise souvent le nombre d'or dans la disposition des feuilles, des graines, des coquillages et même dans les proportions des animaux et du corps humain, ce qui représente l'unité de nous tous et de notre environnement.

I am an artist specializing in relief and intaglio printmaking, inspired mostly by nature and my home environment.
My woodcuts for this project focus on our connection with nature and the connections between generations in our communities.
Je suis une artiste spécialisée dans la gravure en relief et de taille douce, inspirée principalement par la nature et ma maison.
Les gravures sur bois que j'ai réalisées pour ce projet sont axées sur notre lien avec la nature et sur les liens entre les générations au sein de nos communautés.

A photographer for a lifetime, I now also bend my eye to video, trying to coax a story out of the energy. For InterconneXion, I aim to offer a lens on both the artists and their craft, while constructing a worthy representation of the journey and the art.
Photographe depuis toujours, je m'intéresse maintenant aussi à la vidéo, essayant de tirer une histoire de l'énergie. Pour InterconneXion, j'ai l'intention d'offrir un objectif à la fois sur les artistes et leur métier, tout en construisant une représentation digne du voyage et de l'art.

My artistic practice now focuses on printmaking. The long history of farming in the Pontiac resonated with me as someone who has family ties to farming out west. I love the signs that announce that a farm has been in a family since the 1800`s that are seen throughout the Pontiac region. My woodblocks for InterconneXion reflect on farming in the Pontiac; its deep rich interconnection to the land and the community that spans generations.
. Ma pratique artistique se concentre maintenant sur la gravure. La longue histoire d'agriculture dans le Pontiac a résonné en moi comme une personne ayant des liens familiaux avec l'agriculture dans l'Ouest. J'aime les pancartes qui annoncent qu'une ferme est dans une famille depuis les années 1800 que l'on voit dans la région du Pontiac. Mes gravures sur bois pour InterconneXion reflètent l'agriculture dans le Pontiac, sa profonde et riche interconnexion avec le terrain et la communauté qui s'étend sur plusieurs générations.

I am an artist and educator. Since graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design with honours, my art has been inspired by the rural and historical regions of Eastern Ontario & West Quebec.

I have been making art for most of my life, from hand built functional and sculptural clay work to handmade paper, bookbinding, and finally, printmaking. Printmaking offers many options for producing a plate from which to print. Over the years, my preferred medium has been relief printing, such as linocut or woodcut.
The theme of interconnection in my community shows the relationships between the children in the 4H club, the caring for their animals, the farms they live on, the food produced, and the community that enjoys that environment and the results of that process.
J’ai fait de l’art pendant la plus grande partie de ma vie, du travail d’argile fonctionnel et sculptural fait à la main au papier fait à la main, à la reliure de livres, et enfin à la gravure. La gravure offre de nombreuses possibilités pour produire une plaque à partir de laquelle on peut imprimer. Au fil des ans, mon médium préféré a été l’impression en relief, comme la linogravure ou la gravure sur bois.
Le thème de l’interconneXion dans ma communauté peut être vu à travers les relations entre les enfants du club 4H, les soins apportés à leurs animaux, les fermes dans lesquelles ils vivent, la nourriture qui est produite, et la communauté qui apprécie cet environnement et les résultats de ce processus.
